NATO’s transformation

Dear Visitors,

Thanks again for your continuing participation!

As you know, our online discussions follow the themes of the Seminars held by NATO’s Group of Experts on the developing Strategic Concept. The fourth such Seminar will take place on 23 February, in Washington, DC. Hosted by Supreme Allied Command Transformation and the US National Defense University, the subject of the Seminar will be the Alliance’s transformation of its structure, forces, and capabilities.

Accordingly, our next topic for discussions is, “What changes in structures, forces and capabilities are required for NATO’s transformation into an Alliance that can deal successfully with 21st century challenges?”

Please share your thoughts, concerns or questions. We will try to respond to your ideas and summarize the discussion with another live video session.

As background, please consider reading the most recent two-part edition of NATO Review, available at www.nato.int/review. The edition examined issues related to the new Strategic Concept, the Comprehensive Approach and NATO’s transformation.

Let us know what you think!

Dear contributors,

Thank you again for your continuing participation in our online question-and-answer series. Our third live session, scheduled for 15 December at 16:00 CET, will examine the future of NATO’s Partnerships. This online session will complement both the discussion in our online Forum, and the third seminar of the Group of Experts that will take place in Norway in January. The Group of Experts seminar will also examine NATO’s evolving Partnerships.

The panelists for this session for this session will be HE Veronika Wand-Danielsson, Swedish Ambassador to the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council; Brigadier General Pavel Adam, Deputy Assistant Director for Cooperation and Regional Security with NATO’s International Military Staff; and Mr James Mackey, staffer with NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Integration and Partnership Directorate. The session will be moderated by Dr Gerlinde Niehus, Head of NATO’s Corporate Communications Section.

Please submit your questions by leaving a reply below. We will make every effort to pose your questions to our panel participants. If time permits, we will also raise follow-up questions that we receive during the live video session. Do not hesitate to submit your questions well in advance of the event.

Before commenting, it may be useful to read our online Topic pages on the Partnership for Peace, Partnerships with non-NATO countries, NATO’s relations with Contact Countries, and the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council.

The Future of NATO’s Partnerships

Dear Visitors,

We appreciate your active participation in the Forum and your interest in our live video sessions. To continue this process, we are announcing the next round of our online discussions.

We will keep the format of thematic discussions related to the key Strategic Concept seminars. The next such seminar – which will take place in Norway in January – will examine NATO’s evolving partnerships.

Consequently, our next topic for the online discussion is “The Future of NATO’s partnerships”.  The questions we hope to answer include:

  • How NATO can better connect with other international and regional players – states, international and regional organisations as well as non-governmental ones?
  • What lessons learned can be drawn from already existing political and military cooperation with partners?

Please share your thoughts, concerns or questions on any aspect related to NATO’s cooperation with the outside world. We will try to respond to your ideas and summarize the discussion again with another live video session in December.

As food for thought, please consider reading our NATO A-Z page on the Partnership for Peace (PfP) Programme as well as one on the Alliance’s partnerhsip with non-NATO countries.

Let us know what you think!
